We’re not surprised, but we’re still thrilled: Orlando was just named the #1 best place to retire in the entire country, for the second year in a row! WalletHub compared 182 U.S. cities across 45 categories covering affordability, healthcare, activities, and quality of life, and Orlando came out on top of all of them, beating out Miami, Tampa, Scottsdale, and everywhere else in America.

If you’re a retiree weighing your next chapter, or you’re helping a parent think through a move, this is the kind of news that makes the decision a whole lot easier.

Why Orlando Keeps Winning This

It really comes down to a few things WalletHub specifically called out:

  • Tax advantages. Florida has no state income tax, which goes a long way on a fixed retirement income.
  • Access to quality senior healthcare. Orlando’s medical infrastructure — including the Lake Nona Medical City corridor — was a standout factor.
  • Recreational opportunities. From year-round golf and lakes to world-class entertainment just down the road, there’s genuinely something to do every single day.
  • Affordability relative to other top-tier retirement destinations. Orlando held its own against Miami and Tampa while still offering a lower overall cost of living.

Florida cities swept the top of this year’s list entirely: Orlando, Miami, and Tampa took the top three spots nationally, and nine Florida cities landed in the top 40. But Orlando pulled ahead of all of them.

What This Means If You're Retiring (or Helping a Parent Do It)

For retirees: This isn’t just a nice headline – it reflects real, livable advantages. Lower taxes stretch your retirement savings further. Being close to top healthcare matters more every year. And East Orlando specifically (Waterford Lakes, Oviedo, Avalon Park, Lake Nona) offers that sweet spot of quiet, established neighborhoods with easy access to shopping, medical care, and yes, entertainment, without needing to live right in the middle of the tourist corridor.

For adult children helping a parent relocate: We know this process can feel overwhelming: coordinating a move, figuring out the right neighborhood, downsizing a family home, all while managing it from out of state in a lot of cases. Rankings like this one are reassuring, but the real work is finding the right fit: proximity to family, walkability, single-story options, HOA communities with built-in social life, or a quiet street close to good doctors. That’s exactly the kind of thing we help families work through every day.

We've Done This Before (A Lot)

Helping retirees and their families navigate a 55+ transition is one of the things we do most often on this team, and it’s genuinely one of our favorite parts of the job. Whether it’s a parent moving down from up north, a couple downsizing after decades in the same home, or an adult child trying to coordinate the whole move from another state, we’ve walked families through it many times. We’re also a part of a group called the Senior Solutions Team, so if you need help beyond real estate (movers, estate specialists, senior care resources), we can point you in the right direction too.

If Orlando being named the best place to retire in America has you (or your parents) thinking about making the move, we’d love to talk it through. Reach out to our team any time!
