Somewhere around late August, something quietly shifts in Orlando.
The heat is still there, let’s not pretend it isn’t. But the light looks different in the evenings. The afternoon storms start to ease up. The farmers markets get a little fuller. And locals start getting that look in their eyes.
We call it “Augtober” around here.
It’s not fall by the calendar. The temperatures haven’t gotten the memo yet. But for people who actually live here, Augtober is its own season.

Halloween Horror Nights 35 (Starting August 28)
If you live in Orlando, this one is already on your radar!
Halloween Horror Nights kicks off August 28 at Universal Studios Florida and runs through November 1 on select nights. This is the 35th anniversary, so Universal is going all out.
The locals’ move: Wednesday or Thursday nights in September. Shorter lines, lower ticket prices, same experience. October Saturdays are beautiful chaos if that’s your thing, but September weeknights are where the smart money goes.

The Pumpkin Patches
Yes, Florida has pumpkin patches.
Real ones with hayrides, corn mazes, apple cider donuts, and all of it! They just happen in 82-degree weather instead of 52.

Painted Oaks Academy (East Orlando)
📍 15100 Lake Pickett Road, Orlando
Daily and weekend pumpkin patch through October, with farm tours, hayrides, live entertainment, local food vendors, and pony rides. The most convenient option for East Orlando families who don’t want to drive an hour.
Great Scott Farms (Mount Dora)
📍 26216 County Road 448A, Mount Dora
Corn maze, jumping pillow, castle playground, hayrides, and a big pumpkin patch. Adults $20, kids 2 and under free. Pair it with a walk through downtown Mount Dora after, easy full-day outing.
Amber Brooke Farms (Eustis)
📍 36111 County Road 44A, Eustis
September 20 through November, Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pumpkin picking, corn maze, sunflower fields, live music, contests, food trucks. $15 per person, free parking.
Hagerty Farms (Oviedo)

Fall Festival in the Park
The 52nd Annual Fall Festival in the Park is November 2 and 3 at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando, live entertainment, local vendors, craft booths, and the community feel this event has carried for over half a century.
Free. Local. Been going since before most of us moved here. If you’ve never been, this is the year!
Gatorland's Gators, Ghosts & Goblins
Gatorland’s seasonal Halloween event returns for multiple weekends through the end of October: family-friendly, uniquely Orlando, and genuinely fun.
For families who want the Halloween spirit without the full intensity of Horror Nights, this is the sweet spot. It’s one of those only-in-Orlando experiences that locals love and visitors rarely find.
The Evenings
This might be the best part.
Sometime in mid-September, the evening temperature drops into the low 70s. The humidity breaks. You sit on the patio after dinner and you don’t immediately go back inside.
The dog walks get longer. The outdoor restaurants fill up. You remember why you chose to live here.
Nobody puts it on a calendar, but it’s the moment every Orlando local is quietly waiting for all summer long. And it’s worth every sweaty July to get there!
That’s Augtober. That’s why we stay.
